MIDVALE, UTAH

Midvale has long been considered the city “In the Middle of Everything”. However, along with that comes all of the baggage of a busy city. That includes industrial pollution and other damage to the land. Back in the day, Midvale was the center of industry, and these businesses created mounds and mounds of debris consisting of arsenic, lead, and other heavy metals called slag. Overtime some of this material made it into the Jordan River, indefinitely condemning the area for many years. That is, until now.

After about 40 million dollars in rebuilding paid up by settlements with the responsible companies and federal taxes the site is finally ripe to be resettled. According to sltrib reporter Brian Maffly it’s nearly 50 years sooner than expected. Some businesses are slow to act but others are moving in. Cheers to You is one of them.

As soon as hearing the news, Midvale Cheers to You saw an opportunity it couldn’t pass up. Ownership wants to build a third Cheers to You location, the biggest location yet, right on top of the area which used to be uninhabitable.

The location will have a full bar at every floor, infinity pools running off into the Jordan River, dancing, and a retractable roof.

We reached out to Cheers to You owner Bob Brown for comment, but he was too busy competing in an arm wrestling tournament in Russia. However, Missy, one of the bartenders, relayed his excitement on his behalf, “ Bob’s been wanting to do this since day 1… the timing was just right to do it now.”

And while the success of the new location remains to be seen, there’s certainly always room for something better. To get an unbiased response, we took to State Street not far from the bar to get another point of view from the locals.

I managed to get a hold of a Midvale Local, a little red in the cheeks, and she said, “Sounds cool. I’d probably give er a whirl or two!… But I like the way it is now for sure”

It’s called Cheers to you Tower, and designed to be built in the shape of a shot glass.

I want to know what you think... Do you get excited at the idea of a super-bar the size of Rice Eccles Stadium to give Dubai a run for it’s money, or do you prefer the neighborhood feel of the current Midvale Cheers?
