1. don't wear a mask

Masks are pretty cool. Chicks dig the masks, right? Wear the mask to the after party but wear the aviators and handlebar mustache to bar for the same effect. The issue with a mask is you'll have to flip it off to take a sip of your drink and we can't have that can we.

2. Wear a costume with pockets

Your buddies will love you at the beginning of the night but start to hate you if you're constantly reusing the " I forgot my wallet in the car" excuse. It's just bad form.

If you've already settled on being a yoga instructor for Halloween, you could pick up one of those travel fanny packs that buckle onto you. That way you will at least have enough room for an ID and a couple bills.

3. Wear something unique

I'm guilty of this one. If you buy one of these 30 dollar costumes at Spirit, you're bound to meet someone at the bar who has the same silly costume.

4. Coordinate a Costume with a friendEndFragment

The trick is to buy the important accessories first and then go to the thrift store or search the web for filler items that go well with your hand -crafted ensemble.

5. Bring a spare pair of walking shoesEndFragment

This option takes a lot of careful planning and works great for couples. Or if you don't have a significant other, It's always fun when you have an instant wing person to hang out with. It's also a great conversation starter to meet new people along the way at Cheers!

Ladies this one is more for you but it can apply to some of those extreme guy costumes too. Whether you start at Cheers to You or end at it, you're going to need a pair of kicks with plenty of support, especially if you're walking around. My girlfriend brings those ballet type shoes with her a lot and that seems to do the trick (but what the heck do I know), just don't ruin your socks!

7. wear layers

Halloween is obviously a pretty big night to go out. Depending on the turnout you could be shoulder to shoulder with someone you don't really know, so wear something comfortable. Otherwise like Me on a bad day you'll be grouchy and not be very fun to hang out with!

8. Minimize the oversize accessories

This one is for the same reason I mentioned above. The more bodies there are the hotter the place is going to be.

However, the moment you step outside into the chilly Midvale or the downtown Salt Lake City weather, you're going to want to put that creepy trench coat back on.

9. Have a detailed story behind it

Put the sword down Blackbeard you're going to skewer somebody! Accessories more often than not just get in the way.

Last year I was Wolverine so I wore claws, naturally. The problem was I kept thrashing people with them every time I took a swig of whatever I was drinking.

10. Go Big or Go Home

Halloween is one of those holidays that you can be somebody other than yourself. It's an instant conversation starter so take advantage of the occasion and make some new buddies this Halloween.

11. Don't dress up as a Game of Thrones character

Wear something memorable and I swear you'll have a better night.

What you're really saying is:

1) you pay too much for TV and you’re ok with that( I'm just jealous of you)

-or-

2) you're currently stealing somebody else's Comcast Xfinity password to watch the seasons ( but who isn't?)
