Ahhh The SLC Airport & Welcome Home Signs
Bill: Kit Kat and I were at the airport- we were hoping to pick up some Duty Free beligan chocolates and a carton of Virginia Slims. As it turns out, and completely unbeknownst to us, Duty Free shops are all after security. We decided that rather than let this afternoon be a bust, we’d do a bit of people watching.
Kit Kat: It would appear that about 100 people were all waiting for the safe return home of someone named Elder Throckmorten. It was hard not to get swept up in the excitement! They had homemade signs, glitter and party hats. Where in the heck had he been? We didn’t know but we do like commotion.
Bill: Not ones to miss out on festivities, Kit Kat and I decided to mingle with the welcoming committee and let our emotions get the best of us. We introduced ourselves as siblings of cousins of cousins and shook hands and hugged and cheek-kissed our way to the very heart of the posse. It was like some sort of fever had gotten to us- we were in.
Kit Kat: “We are so proud! We feel such joy!” we shouted. What in the hell were we talking about? We didn’t know but I gotta tell you, the feelings became true. We were a part of this family now, and where was Jessipinch? Was his flight delayed? The anxiety was curdling inside of Bill and I like a hot avalanche.
Bill: It seemed like maybe the tension of the flight delay got to be too much for Kit Kat. She started running around from arrival screen to arrival screen, quietly chanting to herself “Flight 913… flight 913.” We didn’t actually know what flight Throckmorten was on, but she was set on searching for at least some flight. She was sweating pretty bad by the time I was able to get her under control.
Kit Kat: Then out of the crowded mist of other humans I saw a figure. It was him. I knew it was him. I don’t know how...I guess it could have been the screaming coming from his family or the smiles and waves he was doing, but whatever it was..he was here! Our elder made it home! At long last this family can be whole once more.
Bill: As Throckmorten made his rounds with his friends and family, he eventually got to Kit and myself. We hugged him and held him close, I know, at least one of us was crying. He laughed and pried himself off and then seemed to notice that he didn’t recognize our faces. I said, “Throckmorten, it’s been a long time, but I am so, so glad you’re home.” He said, “If I may, who in the heck art thou?”
Kit Kat: We just smiled and slowly walked backwards away from the crowd.
Bill: Pulled our parking ticket out of his pocket and got out keys. It was time to go home. We were both so tuckered out from the emotional rollercoaster of Throckmorten’s return. Some chocolate and couch time seemed like the next logical step.
